Galambo presents Andakoyo Mixtape

And finally our first release!

LaSorra Records proudly presents Andakoyo (LSR01), the first release of Galambo.

.

Galambo is the cross between native rhythms from South America and western contemporary electronics.

In the tradition of great folk artists like Violeta Parra, Galambo seeks to unveil the sonic identities of the Andes. From shamanistic indigenous
ceremonies to songs of worship to the divinity. In a cultural syncretism between traditional instruments and electronics.

Galambo is chilean musician/producer and folk investigator Bryan Phillips, 2006 RBMA participant. Who teamed up with argentinian producer The Peronist to produce “ANDAKOYO”. A concept record, deeply rooted in the “bailes chinos” of Andacollo; dancing miners of the north of Chile. An expression that is over 1000 years old that displays an essential understanding of the aboriginal “binary sound”.

Special guests in this record feature Talo Pinto, legendary folk musician and poet from Coquimbo, Chile. Who recorded some beautiful bandoneon and guitar sounds for this project. And also generously gave us an ancient song called the Cañaveral, spoken word poetics and was our spiritual leader in the deepness of chilean folklore. Another special guest is archeomusicologist Jimmy Campillay, member of the Diaguita tribe, whom was invited to record the natural sounds of his indigenous flutes, carved out of rock.

ANDAKOYO is a record in which every sound was played and recorded, except for a couple of drum samples. It was done in a week in the mystical beach of Coquimbo, Chile. Capturing the best of the natural sounds of instruments that ranged from mapuche trutrucas and tarkas from the highlands to electric guitar and laptop sequencing. It was built as a continuous piece of music that can be listened to as one body or in the different individual tracks that comprise the body.

Now please take a listen and enjoy

Dancecoding Experiments in Budapest

http://www.vimeo.com/30133155

As we posted a week ago, LeCorbusound was creating the sound for a dancecoding experiment with some hungarian musicians (András+Tamas).

Here is the video with the description from the vimeo account from Loes (the organizer) :

During SZOB|A|R|T, a German/Hungarian artist collaboration that took place in an abandoned building in the centre of Budapest, resident artist Loes Bogers organised a week of livecoding and dance improvisation jams. The idea behind these jams was to facilitate a place, the knowledge, equipment, skills and a creative atmosphere for dancers and coders to get together and create synergies in improvisation…

Live coding is a type of performance where programmers show off their visual coding skills in realtime. Completely live, you see animated graphics come to life in projections, while a group of programmers punches in code to entertain their audience with a (audio)visual spectacle. A group of coders from Kitchen Budapest have been experimenting with this recently, especially with implementing the Kinect in the Fluxus environment. Kinect captures movement data in 3D using infrared cameras, which makes it a perfect combination with dance.

The aim of this project therefore, was to find a way to get these improvisers to work together and experiment freely during 3-hour jams, not entirely dissimilar to the jams that are common practice in a dance style known as contact improvisation. Eight local dancers – many of them with a contact improv or contemporary dance background – worked with us during the week, resulting in a demonstration at the opening of week 3 at SZOB|A|R|T.

This setup put no pressure on choreographing a stage performance, but stayed closer to the traditions of contact improvisation and livecoding: focusing on the live interaction between all the actors: live music, the several coders, a number of projections, and the moving bodies of the dancers. The group is now investigating the possibility of organising more jams and performance workshops in the future.

Galambo interview on the Red Bull Music Academy Website

_

Galambo won´t stop. 2011 has been an intense year for Galambo. After his radio appearance on 3RRR and a couple of shows in Melbourne, now he is featured talking about the Galambo project and his forthcoming release Andakoyo, on the RedBull Music Academy website.

You can check the interview on this link :

http://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/daily-news/post/17/0/2425

“Class of ’06 Bryan Phillips talks about his new project Galambo and the debut EP Andakoyo, which delves deep into the roots of Chilean and South American music, and places it in a modern day context, while at the same time taking the sound of the club into strange new worlds.”

go galambo, go!

LeCorbusound makes sounds in Budapest

.

LaSorra Records is spread out around the world. Galambo is in Melbourne, Frank is not Right is in Winnipeg, Canada, and Le Corbusound is in Budapest, Hungary. Strange but nice.

This week Le Corbusound is working on the sound design for a really interesting contemporary dance experiment at Szobart, in Budapest. Szobart is a temporary cultural exchange project between german and  hungarian artists. They use an abandoned space for a month, with a lot of things happening, like concerts, expos, performances, workshops, among other things. In this space, Loes Bogers, from Kitchen Budapest (a hungarian medialab) organizes this collaborative project of dancers with livecoding, with the technological support of KiBu coders. Le Corbusound and a local musician, András Molnár, are performing live sounds, interacting along with the visuals. Not cumbia or root sound, but definitely inspiring and freestyle.

Here are some pictures on facebook and soon we will have some videos.

Galambo on The City Rises on 3RRR Radio!

.

Galambo, now based in Melbourne, Australia, was invited to show a preview of his album “Andakoyo“, to the amazing radioshow “The City Rises” on 3RRR Radio.

“Rambl was joined in the studio this evening by Chilean artist, designer and musician Bryan Phillips aka Galambo, to talk about his new concept album, Andakoyo, as well as his recent move to Melbourne. Co-produced with head of Konn Records, The Peronists, Andakoyo is a beautiful 25-minute excursion into the tribal soul of Chilé, shifted through the prism of modern electronic and dance sounds. Recorded over a single week, the album utilises traditional rhythms, chants and instruments and features Chilean folk musician and poet Talo Pinto, alongside modern production techniques and sounds with elements of minimal house and techno. Slated for release in October with a 25 minute video (you can check out the teaser above), we listened to the entire piece with a brief interview during the middle.”

Here you can listen to the complete episode, with the interview and some previews of the album.

Frank is not Right

.

One of our most enigmatic artists, is the chilean architect and musician, Ronnie Araya, also known as Hombre Araya or Frank is Not Right. He is currently living (or lost) in Winnipeg, Canada.

His very weird and personal view of cumbia and latin rhythms, mixed freely with oriental and arabic voices, make up his personal sound.

The people from Generation Bass wrote this “strange” review :

“Sometimes you wish people would let a bit more info about themselves and their songs: how they were produced it, precise credits if there is obvious samples, if they are musicians on top of being producers and what part did they play, and what was the idea feeling of the song. Well at least, when you listen to cumbias like this “Cumbia Oriental” from Frank is not right, you want to know… Well we know he is from Winnipeg Canada…”

Here some samples of Frank is Not Right :

Flamencumbia by FrankisnotRight

Cumbia oriental by FrankisnotRight

Soon more news about Frank is not Right….
